What can we offer?
Telephone helpline
Staff are available to answer questions from carers, families or professionals either before or following a diagnosis of dementia. We also provide emotional and practical support and information on all aspects of caring. Finally, we can act on behalf of carers or help them get the services they are entitled to. The helpline is open from Monday to Thursday 9am - 5pm, and 9am - 4.30pm on Fridays.Telephone Befriending
We provide ongoing emotional support and information to carers and families of people with dementia. Staff keep in regular telephone contact according to each individual's needs.
Carers' Welfare Grants
Limited funds are available for carers in crisis situations or to help ease the burden of caring. If you are a carer, or a professional with a client who could benefit from such a grant, and if funds are not available from elsewhere, please write to the office giving details of what the grant would be used for and other options which have been explored. (Further information)Newsletter
We produce a quarterly newsletter which includes articles about current issues facing both carers and professionals. This gives carers, our Society and other agencies an opportunity to inform others about their experiences, or services they offer. If you would like to receive our newsletter, or to contribute an article, please contact the office.Information leaflets
We have a large range of information and advice sheets, books and videos ideal for both carers and professionals in this field. These leaflets are available free of charge to carers. Owing to the high cost of producing the leaflets, we are only able to provide professionals with a selection of the many that we hold.
However, a comprehensive list of titles is available and we would be pleased to send extra copies on receipt of payment. An extra donation towards our work is always welcome but our basic charges are:
| Number of leaflets | Price |
|---|---|
| Up to 20 leaflets - | £2.00 |
| 20 - 40 leaflets - | £4.00 |
| Full pack - | £6.00 |
All of our information and advice sheets can be accessed from the National Society's website on www.alzheimers.org.uk
We also have a number of leaflets in several different languages. Please contact us for more information.
