What can we offer?
Young Onset Dementia Group
The Branch has been involved in the establishment and development of a focus group looking into the needs of younger people with dementia. We hope that through consultation with carers we will be able to develop services specifically for people under 65. We are now offering carers the opportunity to have an outreach worker visit them in their own homes. An appointment can be made by telephoning the office.
Carers' Support Groups
These groups provide an opportunity for current carers to give each other mutual support. Staff members are present at each group and are available for carers to talk to on an individual basis. Please note, you are welcome to bring your relative with you to any of these groups.
If you would like to attend any of these groups, or would like further information, please contact Kim Peña.
Training
"Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow"
We offer a certificated course for people working and caring with our client group. The two-day course covers issues such as understanding dementia, communication, re-thinking routines, good practice, and the management of challenging behaviour. There is a multi-choice exam at the end of the course which is accredited by the Society's national office.
We can also provide training and support to carers in their care giving role. Please contact the branch with your request.
Public Talks
Members of staff and the committee are available to talk to groups about dementia and the services we provide. If you would like someone to come and talk to you, please ring the office and make an appointment.
